Die International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) ist die führende Gesellschaft für Wissenschaft und Praxis sowie Aus-, Weiter- und Fortbildung zum Thema Schmerz. Gegründet 1973, ist sie mit 6.500 Mitgliedern in 123 Ländern der Welt vertreten. Hinzu kommen 83 nationale Gesellschaften und 14 "Special Interest Groups" (SIG). Eine davon ist die "SIG Acute Pain", unter deren Begleitung die weltweite Kampagne "Global Year Against Acute Pain" von Oktober 2010 bis Oktober 2011 derzeit durchgeführt wird.
Die Koordination erfolgt von einem Team unter Federführung von Prof. Neugebauer, Uni Witten/Herdecke, (international) und Prof. Pogatzki-Zahn, Uni Münster, (national) für die Deutsche Gesellschaft zum Studium des Schmerzes (DGSS). Mittels sogenannten Fact sheets und einem Diskussionsforum zu Einzelthemen wird in vielen Sprachen der Welt auf die Defizite aber auch Erfolge in allen Bereichen des Akutschmerzes hingewiesen (siehe: http://www.iasp-pain.org). Auf unserem VII. Akutschmerzkongress in Köln wird eine eigene internationale Sitzung auf die Erfolge und Herausforderungen in verschiedenen Ländern der Welt eingehen.

The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) brings together scientists, clinicians, health care providers, and policy makers to stimulate and support the study of pain and to translate that knowledge into improved pain relief. Founded in 1973, the IASP has more than 7,500 members in 129 countries, 85 national chapters, and 17 special interest groups (SIGs ). One of them is the „SIG Acute Pain“, who took the lead for the worldwide campaign „Global Year Against Acute Pain“ which lasts from October 2010 till October 2011.
The coordination is in the hands of an international expert team led by Prof. Neugebauer, Univ. Witten/Herdecke, (international) and Prof. Pogatzki-Zahn, Univ. Münster, (national) for the German national chapter “Deutsche Gesellschaft zum Studium des Schmerzes” (DGSS).
The Global Year Against Acute Pain campaign focuses on education for health care professional and government leaders as well as public awareness to help lessen the gap between existing knowledge and technology for acute pain control and current pain management practice. We use fact sheets for information in many languages of the world as well as a discussion forum for exchange of problems and solutions in pain management (see: http://www.iasp-pain.org). At our acute pain congress in Cologne in November 25/26, 2011 we will discuss successes and deficits in the different countries to learn from each other.
